Taipei’s Liberty Square

The CKS Memorial Hall is located within Taipei’s Liberty Square, which features several prominent landmarks and a massive Chinese gate at the entrance, making it a truly remarkable sight.

My wife wore a qipao (traditional Chinese dress) that she rented, and we took some amazing photos with the gates and other buildings in the background. The gate looks especially beautiful at night when it’s lit up.

Two large orange buildings, the National Concert Hall and National Theater of Taiwan, can be found inside the plaza.

Memorial Hall of Chiang Kai Shek

The Chiang Kai Shek memorial building, which is blue and white, is located at the rear of Liberty Square.

A Tribute to General Chiang Kai-shek, the Chinese Military Leader who Fought Against Communists and Japanese Forces in the 20th Century. Unfortunately, the battle was lost, leading to their retreat to Taiwan, which is now a democratic nation.

The CKS memorial building is quite striking, with a subtle resemblance to Beijing’s Temple of Heaven, although I personally don’t think it is quite as extravagant.

There is a small museum inside that you can visit for free, as well as an hourly changing of the guard ceremony that is open to the public.

Admission to the CKS memorial hall and the main square is free of charge.
